GEC Watch: Star Plus and Sony Pal continue to lead respective markets

Overall viewership of the genre has dropped, majorly in the rural markets. The FTAs have also taken a hit in these markets

All Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) have witnessed decline in viewership in Week 18 (April 29-May 5) BARC India data, primarily because of the analogue switch off in rural and smaller markets. Meanwhile, the rankings in all the three markets are the same - urban, rural and U+R. Indian Premier League might also have had impacted the viewership, but that is like a permanent impact for April and May.
